Julia Messenger is a singer-songwriter and jazz vocalist based in Melbourne. She performs in all kinds of musical settings - and is enthralled in this instance to hook up with one of Australia's leading Jazz Pianists Sam Keever's (Kate Cebarano, Katie Noonan, VInce Jones). Together this vocal/piano jazz duo perform jazz standards combined with torch songs/ballads. The duo is easily extendable to a trio with double bass and are also happy to add a drummer and horn player when required. Julia’s voice has been likened to such artists as: “Sade, Dido, Norah Jones, Ursula Rucker, Lisa Gerrard, Annie Lennox, Shirley Bassey, Sinead O’Connor and Donna Summer” - although given the diversity of these artists, her style is her own. Pete is a Melbourne based saxophonist (alto/baritone/tenor/soprano) who has been performing professionally with various ensembles around town for the last 13 years. A while ago his group “PETE MITCHELL QUARTET” released their debut CD “QUIRKY” through move records, which is available Australia wide at good record stores and has received positive airplay and reviews. Apart from performing his original material at Jazz Clubs such as Bennetts Lane and Dizzys Jazz Bar, he plays a wide variety of jazz standards and popular music at many weddings, corporate functions, tafe's / university's, clubs / pubs, shopping centres (roving acoustic) and product launches etc. Styles range from modern jazz, funky acid jazz, swing, bossa nova, latin, ballads etc.

My shows include tasteful subtle real instrument backings that make my performance as full as a solo artist could ever wish to be. I can play a beautiful background dinner show that will make you want to dance when the formalities are through.
