Personal music collection of over 100,000 tracks from the start of the \"modern\" era in 1955/56 with the emergence of Rock & Roll (Bill Haley, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison etc) thru the \"Beatles Era\" \'64 to 69, the \"Glam Rock\" era \'70 to \'73, the \"Disco Era\" \'74 to \'80 and then thru \"New Wave\" and \"New Romantic\" of the early 80\'s thru the emergence of \"House\" music from Detroit and Chicago in the early to mid 80\'s right thru all the 90\'s Top 100 and club tracks of every type/style - pop, rock, indie/alternate, commercial dance, house in all its many derivatives, trance, old school hip hop/RnB etc etc then similarly from Y2K right up to current Top 100 and Club Dance tracks, plus my collection includes lots of \"Nostalgia\" music and jazz/swing of the 30\'s to early 50\'s, even a couple of hundred 1920\'s tracks – in late 2008 we did a 20\'s themed night for 500 guests for Vic Electricity at \"Carousel\" playing with a swing band orchestra. My company music library also contains good collections of Italiank, Greek, Serbian, some Arabic, some Jewish/Israeli and some South American \"Latino\" stuff. I still have around 4,000 7inch 45 rpm records from \'56 to \'91 and close to 2,000 vinyl LPs covering the same eras. Using all that vinyl I have done special \"Retro\" shows on vinyl only (no CDs allowed). Depending on how much the customer/venue wanted to pay these \"vinyl only\" shows have been done both with and without Geoff Cox as a host (who I have known for nearly 30 years - DJed his wife Viv\'s 50th) and a couple with Gavin Wood.

I am a bit of a Producer/Remixer with over 650 mixes sometimes shared on the Net with other DJs. All my DJs have access to these exclusive mixes. Have done one official remix for Triarc Records for Melbourne band Akita and their song \"Grip\" 3 to 4 years ago. Googling DJGarryM will usually give several hundred results.

DJing in bars and clubs since 1985/6 - 2 yrs mobile DJing before that.

In mid-November last year I left my position as resident Fri night DJ 10PM to 2AM at Bar Black in Nepean Hwy Mordialloc (where I had been for a year and a half) because all the mobile bookings we had on Friday nights thru the ultra busy Xmas period needed me on board as well. At Bar Black I was playing lots of Commercial Dance, House, RnB from the early 90\'s up to now and lots of Retro Remakes (which are \"housed up\" extended dance versions of mostly 80\'s hits using original artist\'s vocals and melody but adding a stronger bass-line). Clientele vary from 18 to 50 yrs of age. I have had my youngest DJ Arlo in there on Saturday nights for the past 9 or 10 months to give him some venue experience and over the Xmas peak period I put him in on the Fridays as well to take my place. I charged the venue owner $30 an hour less for Arlo (so $120 less per night) and while crowds have been down a little on what I used to pull, the venue owner and I have agreed to leave him there for a few months, then we will reassess the situation. Since the New Year there have been a few quiet Fridays, so I have done a couple of 2 hour \"guest sets\" on Fridays at the big \"Over 28\'s\" at the Chelsea Heights Hotel with my old DJ mates Les Toth and Steve Bennett.

I am of course also the Owner/Operator of Absolute Class Productions (established in 1988) - which is now one of Melbourne\'s largest mobile disco companies with 14 complete disco sound & lighting systems, all with a set of 3 perspex fronted-light boxes plus ELEVEN lighting effects and a smoke/fog machine in every disco package (see Photo Gallery\" on our web-site). We have done around 700 to 800 functions per year the past few years.

Since 1985 I have had residencies at many venues (I have tried to list them in some sort of chronological order) including:

Alexanders in Brighton/Gardenvale Sunday nights in mid to late 80\'s (the building now houses \"Panasales\"). Sunday nights were always DJ only there but the owner Michael Barnett used to also bring out \"blast from the past\" type international acts as a cabaret show with a sit-down dinner etc and they would sometimes run for 2 or 3 nights - say Thurs to Sat, so I DJed there with the Monkees, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Del Shannon and lots more

Shout Rock Café at the top of King St (now “Witches In Britches” Theatre/Restaurant) - Saturdays for 3 years Oct \'89 to late \'92 playing 70\'s, 80\'s and current/recent 90\'s plus some Sundays DJing 50\'s & 60\'s - DJed with Normie Rowe, Russell Morris, Bjorn Again, The Fabs, The Sharp and many more. Usually around 600 patrons.

Meadow Inn in Broadmeadows thru 90 & 91 in their 400 person dedicated nightclub room on Friday nights playing all current Top 100 and club music of that time

Stylus in Ferntree Gully - 1990 to \'92 two nights per week - Tuesdays Over 30\'s playing mostly 70\'s & 80\'s - with up to 600 patrons - did a live cross to the Steve Vizard Show one Tuesday and also did Thursdays \"Style 26 Plus\" playing current Top 100 and club/dance - used to get up to 2,000 patrons

Grand Hyatt in the Food Court - over 2 years Nov \'92 to Jan \'95 both Fri & Sat - crowds from 500 up to 1,200 for special events such as New Year\'s Eve etc
Also DJed several functions directly for one of the co-owners of both Melbourne Hyatts - former Israeli Army Major Max Moar - including the opening night ball at the Park Hyatt, the opening night at \"Radii\" nightclub in the Park Hyatt, plus his Annual Xmas Ball 3 times and a Jewish Wedding for one of his family members for about 500 guests at \"Blakes\" on South Wharf

York On Lilydale Wednesday Over 28\'s for a year or so in \'92/\'93

Menzies Tavern Over 28\'s on Fridays for a couple of years in early 90\'s

Tombowlers Rock & Roll Cafe in Kingsway Sth Melb Thursday nights for a year or so 93/94 playing 50\'s & 60\'s

Sandown Park Hotel in their dedicated nightclub (which many of the big suburban \"beer barn\" hotels had in those days - now all Tabarets I guess) with large sunken dance-floor for several hundred patrons on Friday nights thru 93 & 94

Pitrones Keysborough - Wed nights Rock & Roll & Sun nights Over 28\'s, doing both nights for a couple of years in mid 90\'s

Savoy Tavern Thursdays in mid 90\'s for 2 years Rock & Roll - usually DJ only but they also used to bring out \"blast from the past\" acts from time time, so I DJed there with Chubby Checker & Fats Domino

Derrimut Hotel Sunshine in their nightclub \"Zapps\" Fridays \'95/96

Planet Hollywood Sunday nights for almost 3 years mid \'97 to early 2000 - 500 to 800 crowd each week - DJed Jean-Claude Van Damme\'s birthday at Planet Hollywood (photos on my web-site) and the Spice Girls \"Welcome To Melbourne\" cocktail party, also at Planet Hollywood (photos on my web-site)

From Oct \'89 to June 2000 all these other residencies were done around my 16 year long-term residencies at a venue in Church St Brighton which started out as the Hob Nob restaurant, which then obtained the very first 3AM licence in Melbourne and became \"Nightwatch\" nightclub in the early 80\'s, then Michael Barnett and Shirley Strachan (Skyhooks) bought it in Sept \'86 and so it became F.Scott\'s which is when I started there DJing 3 nights a week - Thu, Fri & Sat. Then it changed hands in Sept \'87, gained a 7AM licence and was renamed \"Rockefellers\" where I became the Licensee/Manager for Clive Benson-Brown and also DJed Sunday nights and \"late shift\" 3AM til closing on Friday and Saturday. It then changed hands briefly in late \'89 when Clive moved to Perth and the new owner Grant Smith didn\'t want to pay for \"proper\" DJs (like myself and Dave Eeeles who were working there) and instead employed a couple of local kids. By trying to save himself only about $150 a night in DJ wages Grant quickly lost a business turning over several thousand dollars each week. So he only lasted about 15 or 16 weeks before having to sell up. Then it was taken over by Jake Lowe and Drew Bellmaine who kept it as \"Rockefellers\" for a few years before they renamed it \"Jakes\" in \'93. As soon as they took over, they re-hired me and so I DJed many Fridays there and “late-shift” every Saturday in the \"Back Bar\" from 2AM to 7AM from late 1990 thru to mid 2000 when Jake retired and the venue changed hands and was closed for a year for a complete refit, re-emerging in June 2001 as \"Mint\" where I again DJed the Back Room for a year or so up til June 2002. So all up apart from 3 or 4 months in late \'89/early \'90 when Grant Smith very quickly went broke there, and apart from the year it took to totally refit and renovate the venue from June 2000 to June 2001, I DJed there continuously on one or more nights a week (sometimes as many as 4 nights a week) for nearly 16 years - Sept \'86 to June 2002.

When Jake retired Drew Bellmaine then took over \"Riva\" Bar/Restaurant/Nightclub at the StKilda Marina in late 2000 and I have DJed there many times in the public area over the past few years to fill in for their resident DJ Jason Garner when he has taken holidays or other time off and I have also DJed there many times at private functions in their downstairs function room.

From mid 2002 to late 2006 I DJed late shift on Saturdays from 3AM to closing (which was sometimes as late as 9AM but usually around 7AM) at Inflation Nightclub in King St in the City playing Commercial Dance, House and RnB

In 2003/2004 I DJed Fridays at \"Wax\" nightclub in Moorabbin (formerly \"Transformers in the 90\'s), playing House, RnB and Commercial Dance to crowds regularly in excess of 1,000 patrons. Most of the time it was DJ only there but there were also \"one-off\" band nights where I worked there with artists such as Alex Lloyd, Claire Bowditch and Grinspoon.

Then I DJed Fridays and Saturdays at the \"Cruze Club\" at the Grand Hotel in Mornington for over a year 2005 thru 2006 - Fridays Over 28\'s playing a mix of current/recent Top 100 and \"Retro Remakes\" while Saturdays were all current Top 100, Commercial Dance, House and R&B.

And as I said above, I have until recently been DJing Fridays at \"Bar Black\" in Mordialloc and at the moment my youngest DJ Arlo (who has been doing Saturdays there for the past 9 months or so to gain some venue experience) has been filling in for me.

And of course I have personally DJed well over 1,000 private functions from Bar Mitzvahs to school socials/formals, hundreds of birthdays from 16ths to 70ths, Engagements, Wedding Receptions, Sporting Club \"After Match\" and Presentation nights including AFL clubs StKilda and Melbourne and VFL clubs Box Hill Hawks (several times), Coburg Tigers (couple of times), and Sandringham Zebras (many times). Also dozens of Corporate functions (mostly Xmas parties) and lots more.
